Last week, DCE organised a study visit in Utrecht for a delegation from Kuala Lumpur City Hall.
The delegation visited the Netherlands to study the bicycle conditions and to learn more about planning safe cycling infrastructure, in preparation of their Bicycle Master Plan. During the morning, Ronald Tamse from the City of Utrecht gave an expert presentation about cycling in Utrecht during the last decennia and the current cycling program. As part of the presentation, current designs of infrastructure were discussed in order to provide insight in the Dutch design philosophy.
After the lunchbreak, Debbie Ammerlaan of Royal HaskoningDHV took the delegation on a cycling tour through the city of Utrecht, addressing topics such as bicycle streets (fietsstraten), intersections and the Dafne Schippers-brug. The program provided the delegation with a lot of background information which could be useful for developing their own bicycle masterplan!
