Japanese delegation visits NL

On Tuesday September 19th, a Japanese delegation visited the office of the Dutch Cycling Embassy.

The group consisted of five delegates from the Secretariat of Bicycle Utilization Promotion Headquarters from the Road Bureau of The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Japan (MLIT), Docon Co. Ltd Consulting Engineers and the Institute of Behavioral Sciences.

Recently the bicycle policies have been actively promoted both in the national government and local governments in Japan. Since the Act on Promotion of the Use of Bicycles is executed on May 2017,  it is the obligation of the Government to plan the bicycle utilization promotion,  which defines the basic bicycle policy, and also local authorities need to proceed planning it. Therefore, the delegation visits the Netherlands to learn from the advanced bicycle related measures introduced in the Netherlands and application of them to the plan in the country.

The meeting started with a presentation on cycling in the Netherlands, and was followed by discussing questions on (the implementation of) cycling policies. Altogether is was very useful to speak about cycling in Japan and in the Netherlands!
